Lessons learned

After all the excitement of Abby's birthday party, she was not ready to go to bed that evening.  Against her will, Adam put her into her crib that night and left her room promptly.  After five minutes he went back to check on her, but as he approached her door a tiny hand beat him to the punch.  Slowly Abby opened her door, looked up at her dad, and said, "Sorry Dada."  She had jumped over the side of her crib!  I think she had even amazed herself, knew it was wrong, and was afraid of the consequence.  The next day, Adam's birthday, he transformed her crib into a toddler bed.  Abby has done really well adjusting to her new found freedom. However, she had two important lessons to learn.

Lesson #1 Don't get out of bed once Mommy and Daddy has tucked me in for the night.

Abby's first night was hilarious!  Though Adam and I had to put on a front of sternness.  After we kissed her goodnight and left her room we hung out in the loft outside her room.  From outside we could hear the tiny steps of a toddler walking around her room debating what to do.  Finally she reached her door and slowly opened it slightly, then would slowly close it again.  She repeated this cycle time and again before finally deciding to open her door and come out.  When she saw us sitting on the couch (trying to control our laughter), she said with her cheeks as red as could be, "Hey Mommy and Dada!  What you doing guys?"  As soon as we stood up she ran back into her room and jumped into her bed.  After that she never got out of it again.  We must have been very good at hiding how cute we thought she was because apparently she was terrified!

Lesson #2 Once asleep in my toddler bed, stay in it NOT under it!

The second night in her bed at 5:30 in the morning I heard Abby crying.  As I blindly (no glasses or contacts) walked in her room I could hear her crying, "Mommy, I kuck (stuck)," but I couldn't see her anywhere.  Finally I saw two tiny feet sticking out from underneath her bed.  She had completely wedged herself under her bed!  Adam had to come in and lift her bed up for me to pull her out.  We have no idea how she ended up like that, but thankfully it hasn't happened since.

Here are pictures of her the morning after she was stuck under her bed.
