Twirling

When the credits began for a movie Adam and I had finished, Abby got up from her playing and started twirling.

"You cannot record my twirling, and don't you dare put this up on the blog!"

A word from Abigail

Abby went from saying "Mama" to "Mommy"
Jesus "JZ"
"Bible"
When we say, "I love you."  This is what she says back.
"I don't know."

How does your garden grow?

Adam's summer project this year was our first vegetable garden.  This was my view Saturday morning as I was cleaning up from our blueberry pancake breakfast.  Priceless.

Adam throws the tomatoes in the yard behind him, and Abby yells, "BALL!"

She knows just what to do.  Watch out kids for flying tomatoes!
Small note:  These pictures were taken Saturday before Adam mowed the yard.  He does a great job making it look much nicer.

The Indana State Fair

On the way to the fair
I had to literally pull with all my might to get my corndog back.
Abby was too comfortable with the "cluck clucks".  Her face says it all, "Why doesn't Mommy give me some space?"

Summer Sunday

Memories of Gray Brothers Cafeteria can be traced back for me to very early childhood.  The dreaded turn signal starting to click as we approached 465 West after church sent fear down the spines of the three kids in the back seat of the car.  "Mom, Dad, where are we going?" we'd ask our parents.
"We're going to Grays."
"Nooooooo!"

Why did I hate going to this restaurant as a kid?  Well to start it was FOREVER away and I was very hungry after church.  Not to mention I tend to get carsick very easily.  Then when we FINALLY got there, we had to wait in an extremely long line that ended outside!  Great, more waiting.

However, some things are worth the wait.  Once we finally made it to the table, then we got to enjoy a good meal together as a family usually in the company of my Grandma Spivey.

It wasn't until yesterday when my parents called and said that they were going to go to Grays for lunch that I suddenly got very nostalgic.  What a great memory as a child spending summer afternoons with my family and enjoying a delicious meal together.  As I watched my little girl playing outside of Grays with her grandparents, I felt a flood of memories of times I had spent in that exact spot with my family and grandparents.

After all of those years of whining, I finally got it.  It was never about the food for my parents.  It was about the experience.  My mom had gone to Grays in her childhood with her family and grandparents and she wanted to pass that experience down to her children.  And now it was my turn.

Honestly, I don't think I'll mind in a few years if Abby starts to complain in the backseat when she realizes we are going to Grays for dinner.  It is kind of a tradition.  In fact, I might be disappointed if she doesn't.  And maybe, just maybe, if she waits long enough, she might one day look back at those days with fond memories too.

The Wheels on the Bus

Chasing Halle

"What do you want to do Halle?"
"That was an unfortunate tumble."
"I win!"
"Let's kiss and be best friends."
